Lime Rock and Palm Beach Drivers Clubs form partnership
Lakeville, CT — Two exclusive driving clubs 1,331 miles apart have agreed on a unique partnership that provides all members of the respective clubs access to each other’s track. Making the announcement were Simon Kirkby, director of the Lime Rock Drivers Club, and Ryan Loeb, director of marketing and communications for the Palm Beach Drivers Club.
The Lime Rock Drivers Club (LRDC) is located at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., in Connecticut’s Northwest Corner, halfway between Boston and New York City.
The Palm Beach Drivers Club (PBDC) is located at Palm Beach International Raceway (neé Moroso), just east of Lake Okeechobee in Jupiter, Fla., an hour north of Miami.
With members of both clubs often travelling between offices and vacation homes in the Northeast and Florida, LRDC’s Kirkby says the arrangement provides “yet another desirable benefit” for each club’s membership.
“The lifestyles of LRDC and PBDC drivers coincide well with the ability to enjoy two world-class race tracks on the north and south ends of the Eastern seaboard,” Kirkby explains. “Palm Beach International is a great track to drive, a terrific facility, and both clubs are excited about making this happen.”
PBDC members visiting New York City or New England will have rights to enjoy Lime Rock Park’s history and beauty while LRDC’s “snowbirds” can get their high speed fix at Palm Beach International Raceway.
LRDC and PBDC both include private coaching, fine dining and significant track time.
“This ‘co-membership’ program is the result of listening to the membership rolls of both clubs,” says Loeb, “Having essentially ‘drive-in’ access is just terrific.”
Providing private-club access to more tracks in different parts of the country is something both clubs say they’re interested in exploring further.
Lime Rock Park is the historic 1.5-mile, 7-turn classic that opened in 1957. It recently underwent a dramatic $5 million infrastructure-upgrade project that included all-new paddocks, restrooms, landscaping and viewing areas. Lime Rock’s track surface, guardrail and run-offs were rebuilt in 2008.
Palm Beach International Raceway, seven years younger and having undergone its own multi-million dollar remodeling in 2009, is a 2.034-mile, 10-turn road course facility that includes a state-of-the-art drag strip and kart track.
