Three-time World Champion Drag Racer Larry Dixon Partners with Palm Beach Driving Club
JUPITER, Fla. (March 15, 2017) – Larry Dixon, a three-time World Championship drag racer, has signed an agreement to represent the Palm Beach Driving Club (PBDC), the club announced today.
Dixon will pilot a Top Fuel dragster fielded by his own race team, Larry Dixon Racing, at this weekend’s prestigious NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. The PBDC decal will be displayed on Dixon’s helmet when he returns to Gainesville Raceway as a driver for the first time since his wild ride in 2015 when, during a qualifying run, his car went airborne at nearly 325 mph. Dixon is a 62-time winner in NHRA Top Fuel competition.
“I’m extremely pleased to be involved with the Palm Beach Driving Club,” Dixon said. “Being a car guy, I couldn’t think of a cooler group than the PBDC members. You think of clubs in other sports like tennis or golf, but this is true horsepower and legitimate exotic vehicles. I couldn’t think of anything cooler than being associated with this club.”
PBDC is a premier members-only club located at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) in Jupiter, Fla., where it hosts a variety of on-track programs throughout the year. PBDC members enjoy weekly evening track sessions at Palm Beach International Raceway’s acclaimed 11-turn road course and occasional daylight sessions on the PBIR karting course. Each session includes a meal prepared by the PBDC in-house culinary team.
“Our members don’t have to be professional drivers,” PBDC managing director Paul Jones said. “They can come out as automotive enthusiasts and have fun with their cars in a pressure-free environment. We are ecstatic to have an automotive enthusiast like Larry Dixon representing our club.”
PBDC membership consists of drivers of all levels of experience with a desire for practice sessions and races under the guidance of professional drivers. Club members can get valuable instruction from PBDC pro driver Shane Lewis or simply ride with Lewis for adrenaline-pumping experience in the PBDC-owned Radical SR1. Frequently, the track is filled with road-going track monsters like the Corvette Z06, Porsche 911 GT3, Cayman GT4 and rare track inspired exotics such as the BMW M4 GTS or the Porsche 918. PBDC members enjoy occasional access to current or retired IMSA prototypes.
